Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Win or lose, Jake Peavy was going out for dinner with a group of former White Sox teammates after the game tonight. That he pitched seven solid innings in a 7-2 victory meant he could walk into Chicago's hotel smiling. “You know what? It really wasn’t that big of a deal once you got out there. When you get out there you’re in compete mode,” Peavy said. “We’re all used to guys being traded and you know guys. I just knew those guys a little bit more.” Peavy used that knowledge mostly to his advantage as he allowed two runs on five hits, all singles. He walked one and struck out four to improve to 3-1 with a 3.18 earned run average in six starts with the Red Sox. Globe: Peavy keeps the Red Sox on a roll How about Jake Peavy making that trade look better and better, huh? Seven strong innings against his former club and helping the Sox build a 4.5 game lead over the Rays. Oh, and a fine job by the 'pen closing it out.Breslow and Britton pitched a pair of score-less innings with the only blemish being a Britton walk. The Sox are taking advantage of a bad team that had no business taking series from the Royals and Rangers. The offense also looked great last night, as everyone other than Pedroia and Middlebrooks recorded at least 2 hits. Will and Dustin put up big fat goose eggs in the box score. David Ortiz is doing a great job breaking out of the slump, grabbing a pair of singles and driving in a run. Oh, and Xander Bogaerts made himself a part of Red Sox history becoming the youngest Red Sox player to reach base three times, score at least one run and drive in at least one other since Tony Conigliaro and Tony Horton did it during the 1965 season. Get on the Bogaerts train, it's a smooth ride. On Page 2, the Sox acquire John McDonald from the Phillies The Red Sox made a minor trade to improve their infield depth on Saturday night, obtaining 38-year-old John McDonald from the Phillies for pitching prospect Nefi Ogando. McDonald is a native of East Lyme, Conn., who played at Providence College and now lives in Scituate. This is the fourth time he has been traded since March 20. Globe: Red Sox acquire John McDonald from Phillies Good trade, but a few years too late. McDonald was always a possibility for a cheap acquisition, but I guess the Sox never thought he would fit. Especially when they have had some All-Star shortstops over the past decade. I do know one thing, Lou Merloni's pant's just got a little shorter, as he has been practically begging the Sox to grab his boy from PC. So, to sum it up, the Sox gave up nothing, for pretty much nothing. Don't get me wrong, McDonald can still contribute, especially defensively, but many won't notice because he won't be a presence at the plate.
