Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Meanwhile, the Red Sox now are considerably better positioned for both this season and next as a result of Peavy's arrival. The 32-year-old represents a solid mid-rotation starter who, in 80 innings this year, was 8-4 with a 4.28 ERA along with an impressive strikeout rate (8.6 per nine innings) and a very modest walk rate (1.9 per nine). That performance follows an 11-12 campaign in which Peavy had a 3.37 ERA with 8.0 strikeouts and 2.0 walks per nine in 219 innings with Chicago.  "We’re really excited to bring Jake here," said GM Ben Cherington. "He’s obviously a proven major league starter. He’s had a ton of success in his career. And I think if there’s one thing we wanted to do if we could pull it off is to add a starting pitcher. As we looked at the next two months, we’re in position to compete for a playoff spot and we just felt like adding a starting pitcher was probably the most important thing we could do to protect our chances to do that. We’ve been on the phone talking to a lot of teams over the last several weeks, but it’s picked up over the last several days about all the starting pitching alternatives out there. It just came together that this was the deal we thought made the most sense." WEEI: Right player, right price After having a night to sleep on it and putting all emotions aside about Jose Iglesias: this trade is a steal for the Sox. The full details finally came out and the three Single A prospects they sent to Chicago are all far too young to see how they will pan out.  Iglesias himself is stellar defensively but the odds of him replicating his offensive production in the first half of the season are slim. He's perfectly suited for a team like Detroit that already has plenty of offensive firepower AND be able to cover some ground over the third base side since Miguel Cabrera isn't exactly a wizard with the glove. Peavy gives the Sox some flexibility that they desperately needed. Brandon Workman has been a solid guy over the past three starts and he finally for his first career Major League win last night. He's probably heading to the bullpen once Clay Buchholz returns and would be a solid addition there. He'll also be the break case of emergency guy just in case anyone else gets hurt, which is A-OK.  It's unlikely that the Sox will make any other moves today but until the clock hits 4 PM, we won't know for sure.  Globe: Sox acquire Peavy | Sox needed Peavy to match Rays | The many side effects of trade | Herald: Sox land Peavy, send Iglesias to Tigers | Workman gets first win | Peavy instant upgrade for Sox | It's Young on younger CSNNE: Re-arming | Sox hope Villareal will eventually bolster 'pen | Nothing imminent on potential Young deal | Cherington: Peavy 'the right fit for us' | WEEI: Cherington talks Peavy deal, possible trades | Holt to replace Iglesias for time being | Workman shines again
