Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. Shortstop Stephen Drew is riding an eight game hitting streak in which he is batting .464, going 13-for-28 with a double, a home run, seven RBI, and nine walks. That streak just happens to coincide with the first game after Jose Iglesias was sent to the Tigers in a three-team deal that brought right-hander Jake Peavy to the Red Sox. “Well, probably even a little bit before then,” manager John Farrell of Drew's hot streak. “He was starting to get in the flow of things after he came back and got some at base underneath his belt after the DL stint [for a right hamstring strain, from June 29 – July 20], after the All-Star break. To have that kind of bat at shortstop in the bottom third of the order, not only does it lengthen things, but he’s swinging with a lot of confidence right now against  both lefties and righties. CSNNE: Drew's hot hitting comes at right time I take back anything I said about signing Stephen Drew.  The three-run shot last night continues his late inning heroics this season: he's now batting .379 when he comes up to the plate in the ninth with an OPS of 1.040. He's been a rally starter and a game ender and all of it has been happening since the All-Star break. Makes you forget about that other shortstop we just traded. (Just kidding, MISS YOU IGLESIAS.) This is the type of player Ben Cherington envisioned when Drew stays healthy and that's always the key part when we're talking about a Drew. It's something in their DNA that blesses them with great natural talent but poor hamstrings.  Speaking of his older brother, it's fun to look back at how each of them did during their first season in Boston. Stephen is on pace to trump his brother: (JD '07: .270/11/64 in 552 PA, Stephen '13: .249/9/44 in 333 PA). Add in Stephen's solid defense in one of the toughest positions to play and his sudden knack for coming through in the clutch and it's clear: Stephen is the better brother.  (But thanks for the $14 million dollar Grand Slam, JD.) Rest of the Links: Globe: Drew delivers for Sox | Drew comes through | Herald: Drew's three-run blast helps Sox come back again | Sox rally together again to pull out win | Middlebrooks still in mix for promotion | Drake Britton put in unusual position | CSNNE: Drew's blast saves Sox | Britton pitches in as pinch-runner | WEEI: Drew's ninth-inning homer lifts Sox | Bard still banking on helping these Red Sox |
