According to a recent article from the Dallas Morning News, Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish, who was signed by the Rangers in January after starting his career in Japan, may be throwing illegal pitches.

Said the article:

According to a report from the Japanese website Sanspo.com, there is some concern that Darvish is making illegal pitches by wiping sweat off his brow and then touching the ball without leaving the mound. The report said that a Cleveland scout was aware of the issue. There were similar complaints lodged against Boston’s Daisuke Matsuzaka when he first came to the major leagues in 2007.

The original article from Sanspo.com, a Japanese website, could not be found, nor did the article from the Dallas Morning News contain a link to that article.

Davish has made two springs starts so far for the Rangers. In 5 innings pitched he has recorded six strikeouts and a 3.60 ERA.

The 25 year old is expected to play a major role in a third straight run to the World Series, especially after losing C.J. Wilson to free agency.

Through two spring training starts, right-hander Yu Darvish has flashed excellent stuff with a couple of mixed results. TheSportsXChange reports that Darvish is still learning how to use his stuff against major league hitters.

MLB Scouting Notes: Approach Key For Darvish

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- All eyes have been on Yu Darvish since he first set foot on a mound this spring. Since his first start, he's had his share of ups and downs, but for the most part he's been as advertised. However, as talented as Darvish may be, there are some aspects of his game that may trip him up in his first big league season.

Darvish works on mechanics

Yesterday, Texas Rangers pitching coach Mike Maddux spent some extra time in the bullpen with Yu Darvish. The reason is that Maddux has learned that Darvish has thrown primarily out of the stretch over the years so the team would like to get him throwing from the windup. Good thing is the team’s not making it mandatory as Maddux believes pitching from the stretch is most important...

C.J. Wilson tweets Napoli's number

C.J. Wilson decided to play a prank on former teammate Mike Napoli, so he tweeted Napoli's phone number to more than 100,000 Twitter followers.

No need for snap judgments on Darvish

As a general rule, you don't want to make sweeping judgments based on spring training games. But of course, that's next to impossible when one of those games involves Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish. He made his third start of the Cactus League on Monday, and he showed marked improvement from his last outing. Darvish went four innings in a 5-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. He...

Holland pitches 4 scoreless innings for Rangers

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A split-squad game meant Julio Borbon got a chance to prove what he can do. Borbon batted second for the Texas Rangers on Saturday while Elvis Andrus was moved up to leadoff. With regular leadoff hitter Ian Kinsler with the other half of the Rangers in Surprise, Ariz., Borbon was able to thrive at the top of the order between Andrus and Josh Hamilton during a 12...

C.J. Wilson must have been feeling pretty saucy on Saturday, because he decided to prank his former catcher Mike Napoli. Wilson sent a tweet with his supposed new phone number, telling Napoli to call him. Wilson knew most people would figure the phone number was sent by accident — a message intended to be private — and that they would probably call thinking it was Wilson...

C.J. Wilson is not part of Mike Napoli’s best friend club

Over the weekend, C.J. Wilson tweeted his friend Mike Napoli's cell phone number to all of his 116,000 fans and called it a prank. Tweeting Napoli's number just one of Wilson's miscues

The budding rivalry between the Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels took an odd twist Sunday. Former Rangers ace C.J. Wilson took to Twitter and sent out an old phone number of current Texas catcher Mike Napoli. Later he apologized to Napoli on Twitter and said the he did the prank because Napoli said he couldn't wait to hit a homer off Wilson. Smart move by Wilson? Wilson...

Another AL title for Rangers not all about Yu

Maybe all that attention on Yu Darvish this spring has helped shift some of the focus away from just how agonizingly close the Texas Rangers came to winning the World Series. Even the exciting addition of Japan's top pitcher, it's unlikely anyone with the Rangers last season will ever be able to forget being twice within a strike of a series-clinching victory before losing...
