Carlos Zambrano had his worst start as a member of the Miami Marlins thus far in Wednesday’s 6-3 loss to the Houston Astros.    The loss is insignificant but the worrisome part was the five walks allowed by Zambrano.   With only one start to go before the regular season, the veteran will look to turn things around against the New York Yankees at Marlins Park in five days.

The Marlins had hoped for Zambrano to work deep into the game but due to his wildness, he was only able to last four innings.    The Astros also put together three runs on five hits against Zambrano.   Beau Jones did not fare any better out of the bullpen allowing three runs in only one inning of work.   Jones will not make the team but may serve as pitching depth in the minor leagues.  Wade LeBlanc worked a scoreless inning of relief, and remains a question mark for an Opening Night roster spot.  While his Spring warrants a spot, the team may opt to option him to AAA where he can work as a starter.   Edward Mujica and Rob Delaney worked the last two innings posting a scoreless frame each.

Miami had ten hits in the game which was a welcome sight as the regular season nears after a lackluster Spring offensively.     Most of the regulars had the day off with Omar Infante having the best day of those who did make the trip.  Infante picked up a couple of hits including a double.      Bryan Petersen also had two hits and it looks increasingly likely he will win an outfield reserve role.    In the infield reserve battle, Donovan Solano was 1-3 with a triple while Donnie Murphy was 2-3 with a run batted in.

On Thursday the Marlins will take on the St. Louis Cardinals for the last time before Opening Night.  Starting for Miami will be Anibal Sanchez, he will take on Lance Lynn.
