The Miami Marlins’ three game winning streak came to an end on Thursday as the team fell to the Colorado Rockies by a final score of 8-4.    Carlos Zambrano had his worst start since joining Miami as the team moved to 16-6 in May which is still the best record in Major League Baseball.     With Washington also losing, the Marlins remained two games out of first place in the division.

Zambrano entered the game as the Marlins’ most consistent pitcher this year putting up good efforts every five days.    Even though his record is 2-3 after the loss in this one, the veteran should have at least two more wins on the year.    Zambrano struggled with his command walking three in his short five inning effort while also giving up five hits.  In all, Colorado scored seven runs off Zambrano including a three run home run off the bat of Troy Tulowitzki in the fifth inning.   Chad Gaudin picked up the bulk of relief giving the team the next three innings and conserving arms in the bullpen.    Gaudin pitched well allowing one run during his time on the mound while striking out four.   Mike Dunn pitched the ninth with a scoreless inning to give the Miami offense a chance to come back.

Omar Infante returned to the lineup after missing the last three games and went 1-4 out of the two spot.   With Infante back, Bryan Petersen slipped back to eighth in the order and had a hit and a run scored.   Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez stayed hot with a pair of hits each including Ramirez’s eleventh double of the year.   With Austin Kearns sidelined due to a hamstring injury, Chris Coghlan made the start in left field before being replaced midway in a double switch.    Coghlan who was 0-2 with a run scored figures to see increased playing time for the foreseeable future.

On Thursday, the Marlins will start a four game series against the San Francisco Giants.   The scheduled starters are Ryan Vogelsong and Anibal Sanchez.
