The Royals have added a pair of former MLB infielders out of independent ball on minor league deals, per a team announcement. Adeiny Hechavarría is headed to Triple-A Omaha, while Jack Reinheimer will report to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Hechavarria had some nice moments with the Braves in 2019 and 2020, but he hasn’t been on a major league roster since then and was a long shot to be included coming out of camp.
Yesterday, I went through the winners of Braves Spring Training through two weeks. Today, it’s about the losers. Albies will be on the roster regardless as the starting second baseman.
The Braves recently agreed to minor league contracts with a number of players, according to an announcement from Double-A broadcaster Chris Harris (Twitter link).
Hechavarria is better known for his glove work than his bat, with plus-20 Defensive Runs Saved and a plus-2.5 UZR/150 over 6,761 career innings at shortstop.
