PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pirates have recalled infielder Brent Morel from Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday to bolster a bench shortened by injuries.
Morel was hitting .273 with four home runs and 52 RBIs in 92 games at Indianapolis. He also hit .143 with three RBIs in 12 games with the Pirates earlier this season.
Left-hander Jeff Locke was optioned to Indianapolis in a procedural move...

I'm a little behind the gun on this, but the Pirates made a small move on Monday that's probably worth talking at least a little bit about. They claimed Brent Morel off of waivers from the Blue Jays and, to make room for him on the 40-man roster, they designated Chase d'Arnaud for assignment.

The Pirates claimed third baseman Brent Morel from the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday afternoon.
The Blue Jays have claimed third baseman Brent Morel off waivers from the White Sox, according to Toronto's transactions page. The loss of Morel will create a 40-man roster spot for left-hander Eric Surkamp, who was claimed by the White Sox earlier this afternoon.
