Injury Roll Call: The elbows of Billingsley, Crawford, and Elbert + Withrow’s nagging back

The Dodgers begin their 2013 Spring Training with a ton of injury concerns, and now that the whole team has reported, it’s time for an update on player statuses. No better way to start this off than Chad Billingsley, who might be the biggest question mark of all, even if the depth acquired has mitigated the consequences if he does falter. Coaches say he looks normal, trainers have...

Dodgers sign Mark Lowe and move Chris Withrow, Pedro Baez to the 'pen

The Dodgers and Mark Lowe had basically been dancing around for a couple weeks and finally came to an agreement on Friday. If Lowe makes the team as a non-roster invitee, he'll earn a $1.5 million base salary. With incentives, he could earn $2.1 million. Lowe's 2012, despite a nice ERA (3.43), didn't really pitch all that well. His 4.32 FIP was on the high side...

Dodgers switch roles of Chris Withrow, Pedro Baez + invite 17 non-roster to camp

The Dodgers have officially converted former starting pitcher Chris Withrow to relief and former third baseman Pedro Baez to pitching. FINALLY Personally, I’ve seen both Withrow and Baez in those roles for a couple years now (maybe Baez for longer given his swing), and I think most evaluators began to agree within the last year, so it’s good to see the Dodgers follow suit. Withrow...

Chris Withrow goes on minor-league DL

Aaron Miller started for Chattanooga on Saturday. The tall lefty, who might ultimately be destined for the bullpen, went just 2 2/3 innings. It was surprising to me he started. The Lookouts appear to have a glut of starting pitching options, but as a former first-round pick, the Dodgers are wise to keep trying him as a starter until he proves he can't handle it.Enter Chris Withrow...

Dodgers' pitching prospects perk up in 2011

The second go-round at Double-A for Chris Withrow brought the results. The right-handed starter lowered his ERA with Chattanooga from 5.97 in 2010 to 4.20 in 2011, and he did so in nearly an identical amount of time on the mound: he threw 128 2/3 innings last season, one fewer than the year before.

Chattanooga Lookouts 2011 Pitching Stars

This is a hitters league but the Lookouts did have some standouts on the mound.  Here’s a look at some of the better hurlers in 2011. Chris Withrow – He only went 6-6 but he had one of the better strikeout rates amongst starters with 130 strikeouts in 128 2/3 innings.  Walks are a concern [...]

Trade With Coot Veal and the Vealtones: Rasmus, Withrow, and A Slew Of Kemps and Martins

I completed my first trade with Dustin, who runs Coot Veal and the Vealtones. I spotted a card I was interested in, and after a few e-mails we had worked out a great trade. The Colby Rasmus auto above is what started this deal off. I've wanted a Rasmus auto for a while, and now I don't have to troll eBay to find an affordable one. I love me some minor league signatures, though...
