Rangers Injury Updates Part 2: Tanner Scheppers, Joe Saunders, Engel Beltre, Joe Ortiz

The Texas Rangers will look to avoid being swept at home by the Oakland Athletics today.  Having dropped the first two by a combined score of 13-3, the Rangers have looked quite bad.  These three home games are all there is on the schedule for the homestand so leaving without a win would be quite awful.  Could the Rangers have hit a wall because of injuries?  We have updates...

Engel Beltre bringing speed, energy to Rangers lineup

ARLINGTON, Texas Sunday was another day in the education of Engel Beltre. He ended his first week in the majors by scoring a crucial run on a squeeze bunt, then almost gave the game away with a poor decision on a throw from center field. Overall, the Rangers have to be pleased that Beltre is learning on the job after a 3-2 win over Cincinnati. He was 2-for-3 with a run scored...

Holland throws third career complete game shutout

Engel Beltre had his first major league hit today, and Jurickson Profar had a pretty home run.  But they weren’t the stars of the day.  How about a standing ovation for Derek Holland? He went all nine innings, giving up just two hits and two walks.  He struck out seven.  And he only needed 92 pitches to finish his day.  The Rangers fans on my timeline were calling that a Maddux...

Small Sample Size And Spring Training

In a perfect world, every prospect piece would be written after multiple looks at a player including batting practice, infield and in game performance. Unfortunately, everyday life makes it nearly impossible to make that goal a reality as career, family and budget restraints limit the ability for a prospect writer to keep the same schedule as an affiliated scout. And while small...
