Remembering Where Garrett Jones Came From
I have written a lot of positive things about Garrett Jones this offseason. I have made claims that he is much better than people think and can actually be an above average league hitter if used correctly (in a platoon role). The complaints about the Pirates not signing Derrek Lee or Carlos Pena are foolish because the Pirates could very well get similar production out of Jones...

Pirates win arbitration case against Garrett Jones; agree with Casey McGehee
Garrett Jones and the Pirates went to arbitration yesterday to determine if he would make $2.25 million or $2.5 million this season. Today, arbitration was ruled in favor of the Pirates and Jones will make $2.25 million.
It’s pretty amazing that they couldn’t settle with the two sides being so close, but hey, I guess it saves $250,000.
After the Jones ruling, the Pirates...

Why Did Garrett Jones Go to Arbitration?
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Garrett Jones went to an arbitration hearing today, which was a bit of a surprise considering the two sides were just $250 K apart. Jones filed for a $2.5 M salary as a Super Two player, while the Pirates filed for $2.25 M. The close proximity of the salaries raises the question: why didn’t the two sides come to a deal in the middle?
The situation...

Olney: Yanks want Jones for Burnett
More news on the A.J. Burnett front.
Apparently there are some legs to this story and the speculation that the Yankees want Garrett Jones appears to be true.
My feelings on a Jones for Burnett and cash trade are very mixed. With as mediocre as Jones is, the deal, in theory makes sense. However, outside of Jones, the Pirates outlook at first base looks quite bad. Burnett would help...

Can Garrett Jones Have A Big 2012?
The Pittsburgh Pirates are heading into another season with Garrett Jones being one of the biggest bats in their lineup. While that is largely uninspiring, I think Jones is more valuable to this team than many people give him credit for.Chances are that Jones spends most of his time in 2012 playing first base. He will be sharing that time with Casey McGehee, at least while the...
