40th Iditarod race begins in Alaska
Sixty-six mushers began their quest to win the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race with the competition's official start Sunday in Willow.
The mushers and their dog teams will spend about the next eight days traveling across nearly a thousand miles of Alaska wilderness in a sled, all trying to be the first musher to reach the old gold rush town of Nome.

Padres Agree To Contracts With Joe Thatcher and John Baker
The Padres have reached to contract agreements with C John Baker and P Joe Thatcher. Thatcher is signed for a $700k contract and Baker to a $750k contract (per Bill Center of the SDUT).

Padres trade Wade LeBlanc for John Baker
The San Diego Padres have traded LHP Wade LeBlanc to the Miami Marlins for catcher John Baker.
LeBlanc has posted a 4.54 ERA in 293.3 innings for the Padres, spread over the last four seasons. He’s basically been somewhere around replacement level in his time with the Padres.
