Dugout Digest - same ol' Valverde
It took Jose Valverde six games to blow his first save of the season. The Tigers fell to the Indians 4-3 in ten innings, dropping into a first place tie with Cleveland at the top of the AL Central, and Valverde's performance was a big reason why. Detroit's closer began the ninth by walking Michael Bourn, then allowing him to steal second. After getting two outs, he then walked...
TDSS Tigers Recap, Game 35: Jose Valverde, Offense Falter in 10-Inning Loss
Jose Valverde had been 3-for-3 on save opportunities with five scoreless innings since rejoining the Detroit Tigers. Sunday, he looked a little more like the struggling closer that the franchise tried to move on without this offseason.
Valverde, while throwing nothing but fastballs in a 29-pitch performance, walked two batters and allowed a game-tying single to Michael Brantley in...
With Valverde, the Tigers Bullpen has Found its Groove
Who would have thought that just over a month ago that the savior of the bullpen would have been the disgraced Jose Valverde. His return to the Tigers pen has allowed for guys to return to traditional and more defined roles which has provided stability to the end of close games.
Pitchers are creatures of habit. They do their best when they know when they will be pitching in games...

Each Monday, good or bad, we’ll look back at the biggest theme of the week that was for the Detroit Tigers.
Forever, the biggest story in the young 2013 season for the Tigers has been the team’s troubles in the bullpen stemming from the lack of a closer. Last week, though, everything changed with the arrival of a familiar face.

Jose Valverde Never Should Have Lost Closer’s Role in First Place, Ought to Fare Well in 2013
Jose Valverde is 35 years old. Players in their late 30s never get better naturally, so his decline will come — sooner rather than later.
However, as we sit here a day after Valverde’s resurfacing with the Tigers and first save of the season, there’s nothing to suggest that his decline is imminent in 2013. Moreover, Valverde never deserved to lose the Tigers’ closer’s role...

Jose Valverde’s entrance ritual and two-toned chin hair (VIDEO/PIC)
Tigers fans can only hope that they see Jose Valverde’s ritual 30-some (or more) times this summer after Papa Grande closed his first game since being re-signed. That would mean that the Big Potato would be enjoying some semblance of success…which translates to Tiger W’s.
However, we can only hope that the two-toned action on this chin garbage quickly fades. That just isn’t right.
HE'S BACK
Valverde returning as Tigers closer

Although they would...
