Tribe calls up pitcher, sends down Aguilar

The Cleveland Indians called up pitcher Michael Roth from Triple-A Columbus Tuesday, sending first baseman Jesus Aguilar back down. Aguilar had been brought up to the big league roster Friday. The 25-year-old Roth has made 19 starts for the Clippers this season, going 7-6 with a 4.16 ERA. Roth appeared in 22 games -- making one start -- in 2013 and 2014 with the Los Angeles Angels.

Sunday Notes: Funky Lefties Holiday Edition

Bruce Chen retired on Monday, which makes this a good time to talk about Michael Roth. Chen closed out his career with the Indians, and Roth, a fellow southpaw, signed with Cleveland this past off-season. That’s not their only connection. A few days before Chen made his announcement, I suggested to the 25-year-old former Angel […]

Boxscore Breakdown #135: Look, Ma, no starters! – Angels 2, Athletics 0

Starting pitchers, we don’t need not stinking starting pitchers? Scioscia (and I’d guess at least partly Dipoto’s) master plan went off without a hitch. Definitely a little bit of good luck, too, but no real hitches. The eight man-attack kept Oakland’s bats quiet all night, combining to outduel an excellent Jeff Samardzija. None of it would’ve been possible had Cory Rasmus...

Michael Roth, Los Angeles Angels Pitcher

When I talked to Michael Roth, he said he wasn’t too familiar with Eric Stults. I suggested maybe he should be. Stults, a savvy southpaw for the San Diego Padres, mixed and matched his way to 11 wins and a 3.93 ERA last year. Roth has a similar skill set and could one day have […]
