Giants cut Ramon Ramirez, Wilson Valdez
The Giants on Friday released both reliever Ramon Ramirez and infielder Wilson Valdez, who both had opt-out clauses in their contracts.
Both players had no chance of making the opening day roster, and the Giants reportedly wanted to give both time to be picked up by teams that provided more favorable situations.
According to Andrew Baggarly, the Giants want to re-sign Ramirez to...

SF Giants Rumors: Ramon Ramirez Is Back, Tony Abreu Picked Up Off Waivers
Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com says (via Twitter) the San Francisco Giants have agreed to terms with reliever Ramon Ramirez. The Giants traded Ramirez and Andres Torres to the Mets for outfielder Angel Pagan last offseason.
It’s funny that now all three of these guys will be on the same team in San Francisco. It’s like the Giants let the Mets borrow these guys and gave us Pagan...
Ramon Ramirez gets the Win but Jeremy Hefner earns a QS
The Mets used four pitchers last night and the one who likely did the worst job on the night – Ramon Ramirez – came away with the Win. That’s the way it goes sometimes because no statistic is perfect. The annoying thing is that many people will forgive the imperfections of certain stats, like Wins, yet are not willing to give other stats a chance because they focus only...
Rauch Out With Elbow Soreness, Ramon Ramirez Placed On DL, Jack Egbert Cut
The Mets have placed Ramon Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring. Miguel Batista has been activated from the disabled list, and will take Ramirez’s place on the active roster.
Ramirez was the key player in the deal that sent Angel Pagan to San Francisco and was part of the revamped bullpen the Mets focused their effort and financial resources in the offseason...
Mets pitcher Ramon Ramirez injured celebrating Johan Santana’s no-hitter
It was a night of celebration at Citi Field after Johan Santana notched the Mets’ first-ever no-hitter on Friday. But as Santana’s teammates rushed from the dugout after he secured the final out to congratulate him, one Mets player went maybe a little too hard in the celebrating. Joel Sherman of the New York Post has the scoop:
Hard to believe dept: I heard Elvin Ramirez,called...
Ramirez is struggling...
Photo by Michael BaronIt's only been five appearances but it should be noted that Ramon Ramirez is struggling. The 30 y/o right hander came over in the Angel Pagan trade and after posting a 2.62 ERA last season, many felt he was the steal of the deal. But since coming to the Mets Ramirez has struggled, he had a bad spring but unlike Rauch and Francisco who turned it on when...
Mets Avoid Arbitration With Ramon Ramirez
According to Enrique Rojas of ESPN, the Mets and Ramon Ramirez avoided arbitration and agreed on a one-year deal for $2.65 million dollars.
Ramirez could be the leading contender for the Mets setup role in the bullpen, and he can also close if the need arises. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 2.66 ERA in 66 appearances for the Giants last season.
The Mets still have Mike Pelfrey...
Giants looking to trade Jeremy Affeldt or Ramon Ramirez
I don’t even know what to say. The Giants are spending little money this offseason, but decided to commit ~$10MM to two lefty relievers. When they re-signed Javier Lopez and exercised Jeremy Affeldt‘s option, I thought it was a bit excessive and unnecessary. Apparently the Giants took a month to realize that, and are now trying to clear up some of the money they have invested...
