The Tampa Bay Rays have designated outfielder Shelley Duncan for assignment after having batted a sub.200 through 64 plate appearances in 2013 with the parent club. A streaky bat with solid power, Duncan will hope to catch on somewhere else.

Rays add Shelley Duncan to roster
Luke Scott is out, and Shelley Duncan is in.
The Tampa Bay Rays added Duncan to the Opening Day roster Sunday, a day after placing Scott, a designated hitter, on the 15-day disabled list. Scott sustained a right calf strain last week, which he said was caused by drinking too much alkaline water.
