Cody McKenzie will put his guillotine submission prowess to the test when he moves to the 145-pound featherweight division to challenge Chad Mendes at UFC 148. UFC officials announced on Friday that verbal agreements are in place for the bout.
McKenzie (13-2), an Ultimate Fighter 12 alumni, is fresh of a first round submission over Marcus LeVesseur at UFC on FUEL TV 3. He has recorded 12 of his victories by submission and his last 11 wins have come by his trademark guillotine submission.
Mendes (11-1) returns to action for the first time since suffering a knockout loss to featherweight champion Jose Aldo at UFC 142. The Team Alpha Male fighter began his career with eleven straight wins which included victories over Erik Koch, Michihiro Omigawa and Rani Yahya.
UFC 148 takes place on July 7th from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event is headlined by the long awaited rematch between middleweight champion Anderson Silva and his rival Chael Sonnen.
