The old saw in mixed martial arts is that the lighter weight classes (anything below welterweight; especially anything below lightweight) just don't catch the common fan's interest. They won't sell pay-per-views, and they won't draw viewers to free TV telecasts. But perhaps things are about to change. Last night's UFC on Fox telecast, headlined by Demetrious...
The UFC returned to Chicago with an outstanding fight card that featured an array of stoppages and several upsets mixed into the action. Flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson survived an early scare to win a unanimous decision over Dodson to retain his title. In the co-main event, Glover Teixiera dominated former champ Quinton Jackson en route to a decision victory.
Demetrious Johnson was staggered by the left fist of John Dodson, a blow that sent the UFC flyweight champ to the mat in the second round.
Johnson popped right up like only a 125-pounder can and embarked on a rally that resulted in a victory by unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 48-47) to defend his crown at UFC on FOX 6, a bout at the United Center on Saturday night that followed...

First let’s start with the current UFC flyweight champion Demetrious [...]
I've heard plenty of UFC fighters challenge other fighters over the years. However, this is the first time I can ever recall a UFC fighter claim that a challenge heard on national television was a misunderstanding.
UFC on FOX 6 is merely a few hours away and will feature flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson defending his title for the first time against TUF winner John Dodson. Also featured on the card is a co-main event brawl between Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson and Glover Texieira and a lightweight battle between Donald Cerrone and Anthony Pettis.

After a night of freebie MMA action, UFC president Dana White awarded Anthony Pettis (Pictured), Ryan Bader, Demetrious Johnson and John Dodson each an additional $50,000 for their special performances Saturday night at “UFC on FOX: Johnson vs. Dodson.”
Pettis earned ‘Knockout of the Night’ by unleashing his leg in Donald Cerrone’s ribs.
It took Bader all of 50 seconds...
