tuf 16 carwin vs nelson e1347676827294 Elimination fight results for The Ultimate Fighter 16; plus teams are chosenSeason 16 of The Ultimate Fighter kicked off tonight with 32 welterweights looking earn a six-figure UFC contract. UFC President Dana White, along with coaches Roy “Big Country” Nelson and Shane Carwin, welcomed the fighters to the octagon at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. White quickly unleashed a F-bomb filled speech imploring the fighters to be exciting while leaving it all in the cage. Nelson offered his opinion that the most important thing for the fighters was to make it into the house. So it took about two minutes before we had the first disagreement between White and Nelson.

Quick results of the TUF 16 elimination fights are shown after the jump. The winners have earned their way into the TUF house.

Dom Waters knocked out Kevin Nowaczk with a sharp uppercut

Michael Hill knocked out Lev Magen. A short left hook was the big shot

Bristol Marunde submitted George Lockhart

Julian Lane decisions Diego Bautista. Dana was not a fan, called it a boring decision.

Igor Araujo submitted Cortez Coleman by triangle

James Chaney submitted Jerel Clark. Chaney pulled guard, dominated on the ground

Matt Secor submitted Max Griffin by armbar in sudden victory round.

Eddy Ellis submitted David Michaud by arm triangle.

Joey Rivera decisions Saad Awad. It was “not the most exciting fight”

Tim Ruberg submitted Nic Herron-Webb by armbar

Sam Alvey knocked out Leo Kuntz. Alvey crushed Kuntz with a vicious right.

Following the action, Dana acknowledged several fighters who he felt were most impressive in their wins. It was no coincidence that those were fighters who won by an exicting finish. Dana added, “you don’t want to be the guy nobody remembers”.

It was time to pick teams and Dana announced that each fighter who wins by stoppage will earn $5,000. Dana flipped a coin toss to determine which coach would choose to make the first fight or to pick the first member of their team. Nelson won the coin toss and elected to make the first fight which gave Carin the first pick.
