UFC president Dana White made his debut on “Fox Sports Live” on Wednesday, and he came out firing. Shortly after announcing Lyoto Machida will drop to middleweight to fight Tim Kennedy, White said Chael Sonnen will be granted his wish and get a scrap against Wanderlei Silva (pictured).
However, the caveat is Silva must be healthy. If “The Axe Murderer” is, the bitter rivals will co-headline UFC 167.
After submitting former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Silva’s former Chute Boxe teammate, this past Saturday, Sonnen flipped on his WWE switch and went on an extended rant directed at Silva.
“Right here on the UFC’s new home, Fox Sports 1, Wanderlei Silva, 6 feet tall and 205 pounds, boy, until I met you, I didn’t know they could stack crap that high,” Sonnen stated during his in-Octagon interview. “Wanderlei Silva, three months, you and the bad guy!”
The win marked Sonnen’s first in three outings, but the defeats during that span came against then-middleweight champ Anderson Silva and reigning light heavyweight king Jon Jones, arguably the game’s top two fighters.
Silva, meanwhile, has dropped seven of his past 11 scraps. However, the 37-year-old turned back the hands of time in March to knockout – and subsequently retire – Brian Stann.
White did not say what injury would prevent Silva from making the appointment, nor which weight class the bout will take place.
UFC 167 takes place November 16 inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here is the show’s current lineup:
Rory MacDonald vs. Robbie Lawler
Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnen
Johny Hendricks vs. Georges St-Pierre (UFC welterweight champion)

UFC superstar Wanderlei Silva (pictured) just dropped the ultimate diss, Silva called archenemy Chael Sonnen a “butt face.” Not to be confused with butt hole, which was the popular term when I was in elementary school. Silva released a dark and ominous video Friday where he goes off on Uncle Chael … for four minutes and 58 seconds. The clip comes two days after UFC president...
This is a bit odd. It’s been a month since this exclusive, 45-minute interview with Anderson Silva a few weeks after Chris Weidman took his belt was posted, and yet no one has watched it. For that very reason I present it to you here, with English subtitles so you can watch it on your lunch break, or after you get home from work, or right when you wake up with a bowl of cereal...
The MMA world is still recovering from one of the most shocking upsets in UFC history, when 9-0 Chris Weidman rendered long-time middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva unconscious to earn the 185 lbs title. While the rematch is set for the organization’s traditional year-end show at UFC 168, rumours have been thrown around regarding Anderson’s emotions after the fight and whether...
UFC president Dana White had his sights set on having Wanderlei Silva vs. Chael Sonnen co-main event UFC 167, scheduled for November 16 in Las Vegas, but Silva is presenting a major road block in the UFC’s plans. According to MMA Mania, Dana White stated that Silva wants PPV points to go along with his base pay. PPV points are basically a piece of the PPV buy gross. In a...
Today, a day that will live in infamy. Wanderlei Silva has finally erupted on Chael Sonnen and his constant call-outs and disrespect, and it’s glorious.
This is what I’ve wanted for so long. Chael, Wand, and an ocean of bad blood. I don’t think this fight will go well for Wand, but if he knocks out Chael, I will tear my shirt off and run around LA like a madmen until the LAPD...
This Wanderlei Silva promo that was just released on the Axe Murderer's YouTube page is about the closest you'll get to the Ultimate Warrior in the UFC. The only difference is Wanderlei doesn't start off with his back turned to the camera breathing heavily.
Over the past couple of years Chael Sonnen has been talking trash about Brazilian fighters, particularly the...
A much-anticipated bout between Chael Sonnen (29-13-1, pictured right) and Wanderlei Silva (35-12-1 (1nc)) may finally be materialising, with the fight currently being discussed for UFC 167. Chael Sonnen recently appealed to UFC President Dana White to put him in the c0-main event of UFC 167, against Silva, during a recent episode of ‘UFC […]
It had looked like a bout between Chael Sonnen (29-13-1) and Wanderlei Silva (35-12-1 (1nc)) was finally happening, with UFC President Dana White recently saying he would definitely try to make the bout happen, following a plea from Chael to book the fight for the co-main event of UFC 167. However, it would seem […]
After defeating Shogun Rua by guillotine choke at UFC Fight Night on FOX Sports 1, Chael Sonnen got on the microphone for his post-fight interview in Joe Rogan. What followed was another brilliant entry in the 'Chael Sonnen Trash Talk Hall of Fame' in which he called out longtime rival, Wanderlei Silva.
In the least surprising news of the century, this did not resonate...
