Sergio Pettis spent years trying to escape his brother’s shadow. Mission accomplished. The 29-year-old Milwaukee native has emerged as one of the sport’s premier bantamweights, having excelled in both the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Bellator MMA.
The exact nature of Pettis’ injury was not disclosed, but the Roufusport standout did release a statement via social media revealing that his ailment will require surgery and a lengthy recovery process.
Pettis lost each of the first three rounds of the fight, but one devastating strike in the latter half of the fourth round was all it took for him to erase his earlier struggles and leave the cage victorious.
