UFC officials have announced that Evan Dunham has been forced out of his upcoming bout against Edson Barboza at UFC 146 due to injury.
Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner has been pulled in to replace the injured Dunham.
UFC 146 takes place May 26 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be headlined by a heavyweight title bout between current UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos and former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir.
Varner is 19-6-1 in his professional mixed martial arts career. He is currently on a two fight win streak competing in the XFC and is 1-1 in the UFC thus far. In his last bout he defeated Drew Fickett via first round submission (punches) at XFC 16. The Barboza bout will be his first in the UFC since March 3, 2007.
Barboza is 10-0 in his professional mixed martial arts career. The fast rising lightweight prospect looks to remain undefeated for his career and also in the UFC where he is 4-0 thus far. In his last bout he defeated Terry Etim with a highlight reel knockout via a spinning wheel kick in the third round at UFC 142.
