Jon Jones Teases His Return – ‘I Have A Date’
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Jon Jones‘ return is near after the UFC Heavyweight Champion revealed he has a verbal agreement over his next fight.

Bones has not been in the Octagon since his victory over Ciryl Gane to win the vacant heavyweight title at UFC 285. He was on course to defend his belt against Stipe Miocic at UFC 295. However, the American pulled out after injuring his pectoral muscle in sparring. He underwent surgery to rectify the issue, only to reveal he required further surgery on his elbow.

During his time out with injury, Bones has had numerous challenges. Tom Aspinall, the UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion, wanted Jones stripped. The Brit felt Jones was holding up the division. Aspinall wanted to fight Miocic for the title, with the winner facing Jones. Dana White dismissed that possibility, giving Jones time to prepare for his return.

Jones’ Problems

However, there were further issues. Jones was accused of threatening to kill a drug testing officer who visited his home. Reports indicate the female employee went to Jones’ house with a colleague, only for the fighter to be intoxicated. It is claimed he grabbed her phone, preventing her from calling the authorities. Jone denied he had been arrested, releasing security footage showing him walking the two people to their car in a cordial manner.

“I have not been arrested. In fact, I am currently in Texas with my daughters at a volleyball tournament. I must admit, it’s disappointing to have to clarify these things again, but I understand that I may be an easy target given some of my past issues. it’s important to set the record straight and make sure the truth is told.

“I was recently visited by testers while I was celebrating a birthday and taking a nap. Upon waking up, I was caught off guard by the unprofessionalism and protocol by one of the testers, which caused frustration, leading me to use some profanity  I regret. However, I want to emphasize that at no point did I threaten, get in anyone’s face, raise my voice to anyone or engage in any form of assault,” Jones revealed

There have also been accusations over Jones’ sexuality. An MMA influencer known as MMA Guru alleged that Jones was gay. The fighter has been engaged to Jessie Moses since 2013, as the fighter shut down those claims.

“A random loser with a microphone in his basement…Crazy that we live in the world where influencers can persuade the minds of the boys on the Internet. Literally some random loser with a microphone in his basement. People can just say anything they want these days, I find it fascinating,” Jones said

Jones’ Return

Now that Jones has returned to training, he expects to announce his fight soon.

“I have a date. I’ll let boss man Dana [White] announce that.”Nope [can’t announce anything yet], as right now it’s just a verbal agreement,” Jones stated

Jones has only fought once in over three years. At 36, he is in the latter parts of his career. The fight with Miocic raised suggestions that the winner could retire. With Jones considered one of the best UFC fighters ever, a win could see him walk away from the sport.
