We completely understand that the UFC loves guys who ‘WAR,’ but given the organization’s quick trigger finger, Leonard Garcia (pictured) will certainly be fighting for his big league career on April 27, RIGHT???
Garcia announced Sunday via Twitter that he’ll be looking to snap his four-fight losing skid when he faces Cody McKenzie at UFC 159.
The featherweights were initially slated to meet at UFC 155, but an undisclosed injury forced McKenzie out at the last-minute. “Bad Boy” went on to drop a split decision to Max Holloway in the New Year’s Eve weekend card.
Most Octagon athletes are issued their pink slip after three straight losses – unless you’re Dan Hardy, of course – but Garcia has earned ‘Fight of the Night’ honors in four of his past eight scraps under Zuffa’s watch.
Garcia and “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung won ‘Fight of the Year’ for their April 2010 barn-burner at WEC 48.
McKenzie is also looking to get back on the winning track after getting knocked out by Chad Mendes at UFC 148. Twelve of his 13 career victories have come via tapout.
Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey hosts the festivities.
Here is the card’s current lineup:
Sara McMann vs. Sheila Gaff
Leonard Garcia vs. Cody McKenzie
Ovince St. Preux vs. Gian Villante
Steven Siler vs. Jim Hettes
Rustam Khabilov vs. Yancy Medeiros
Joe Proctor vs. Al Iaquinta
Nick Catone vs. James Head
Jim Miller vs. Pat Healy
Vinny Magalhaes vs. Phil Davis
Roy Nelson vs. Cheick Kongo
Michael Bisping vs. Alan Belcher
Chael Sonnen vs. Jon Jones (UFC light heavyweight champion)
