Now that the dust has settled on UFC 163, fans will be debating the controversial verdict between Phil Davis (pictured) and Lyoto Machida for days to come – some, perhaps forever. Nearly every fan inside HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro and most journalists sitting in press row believed Machida did enough to take home a decision win. However, the three judges who have final say unanimously believed Davis was the victor (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). UFC president Dana White said he thought Machida won all three rounds. However, he capped off his verdict with “that’s what happens when u leave it up to the judges!” Please click the media player below to watch the highlights: Video: UFC 163: Machida/Davis Highlights

UFC 163: Davis out Machida'd Machida

It seems like these days if Lyoto Machida is fighting in the co-main event then a judging controversy is sure to follow. Seemingly, the judges just cannot get it right for many fight fans. When they scored him the winner over Dan Henderson at UFC 157 fans were outraged. When he was on the losing side of the decision against Phil Davis this past Saturday night at UFC 163 not only...

Did the Judges Get It Right With Machida vs Davis…It’s Man vs Machine!

Sometimes we only trust what our eyes see.  Machida has a style that bothers many fans and I can see why many were rooting for Phil Davis, or even gave him the fight.  I saw Machida landing more strikes and stuffing takedowns, but obviously the flawed MMA scoring prevailed.  Phil Davis landed two takedowns and that trumped everything that was done standing up.  What do...

Save the drama for a real bad call

Why Davis over Machida was no robbery After nearly every major event, there is at least one decision that forces us to take sides, dig in our heels and defend what we think we saw. May I remind you that television itself is an optical illusion, seemingly moving images made of billions of glowing pixels re-stimulated 60 times a second to fool us into believing what we are seeing...

Phil Davis Wins on Controversial Decision Over Lyoto Machida at UFC 163

In a shocking judges’ decision last night, Phil Davis defeated the former lightweight champion Lyoto Machida unanimously. Even more surprising was that this fight took place in Brazil and Machida is Brazilian. Even with this being the case, everyone watching the fight believed Machida controlled the 3-round bout and should have won the fight. Yahoo Sports is reporting that Dana...

Lyoto Machida Post Fight Interview

Machida was on the right side of a controversial split decision his last time out and though this was a close fight Davis did more to earn the decision in my opinion.  Machida’s style is very unique and has been the reason for some not so exciting fights in the past and we all know that the judging in MMA is questionable at best but if you don’t get a finish you can’t count...

UFC 163: Lyoto Machida vs. Phil Davis Official Box Score

Phil Davis pulled off the impossible on Saturday night at UFC 163. No, beating former light heavyweight champ Lyoto Machida (pictured) wasn’t his miraculous accomplishment, even though Machida was nearly a 4-to-1 odds-on favorite to hand Davis his second professional defeat, but Davis took a close fight in Machida’s homeland of Brazil. Most journalists sitting press row believed...

Lyoto Machida Signs A Fans Head

That’s a weird request from a fan but The Dragon is happy to oblige.  I really hope Lyoto can put on an exciting fight this Saturday because his last outing really was terrible. breaks down Lyoto Machida vs Phil Davis Lyoto Machida arrives at the press conference

UFC 163: 'Aldo vs. Zombie' Event Preview

Another week, another light UFC card in Brazil. The big name fighters seem to be blurred out by the unfamiliar Brazilians with no Wikipedia pages. What did we expect though? It's the week before the strongest fight card shown on free tv in history and is in the shadows of (injury bug allowing) the most stacked half-year of MMA ever seen. Anthony Pettis getting injured also didn...

Teixeira to get shot at Jon Jones' belt

Lyoto Machida was the UFC light-heavyweight No. 1 contender until he wasn't. That designation, seemingly won after beating Dan Henderson in February, is lost after Machida fell in a controversial but unanimous decision to Phil Davis at UFC 163. That result left a vacancy near the top of the rankings, a co-starring role that may be quickly recast with the surging Brazilian Glover...
