Wanna know one of the primary reasons Strikeforce was forced to close its doors following Saturday’s event? Well, the total disclosed payroll for “Strikeforce: Marquardt vs. Saffiedine” was an astonishing $1,153,500. According to the Oklahoma State Athletic Commission, Josh Barnett (Pictured) was the night’s highest earner. “The Warmaster” pocketed a flat $250,000 salary for meeting Nandor Guelmino inside the hexagon. Gegard Mousasi scored the event’s second-largest purse. The former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion made a cool $175k. Please keep in mind, the numbers that get reported to the athletic commissions are only of what’s required. These figures do not include deductions for items such as licenses and taxes. Additionally, they do not contain money paid by sponsors, which can oftentimes represent a substantial portion of a fighter’s total income.
