And what a challenge it is. Fighting the hot scorchin' Canadian Welterweight wunderkind on his own soil - the fight is already being linked to UFC 152 in Toronto - and coming out of "retirement" to do so. We saw what MacDonald did to the last lightweight by trade he fought. He tossed Nate Diaz around for three rounds in front of a record setting Rogers Centre crowd last April, knocking Diaz right back down to 155 where he's now having the best success of his career. Maybe that's what Penn needs? Maybe Penn just thrives on these "challenges"? It's why he's arguably the most revered fighter in the game. He's the David that constantly has been accepting match up from Goliaths. MacDonald will out weigh Penn by somewhere around 30 pounds on fight night. Whether he tosses his opponent around and has his way with him for three rounds or ends up getting a light shined in his face remains to be seen. That's why we always end up tuning in right?

More of this story and how it all came to fruition after the break.

When Rory MacDonald called out B.J. Penn earlier this week it seemed like just another case of, well, a fighter calling out B.J. Penn. Not the case. Here's what MacDonald told The MMA Hour's Ariel Helwani on Monday afternoon:

" Right now i feel like there's a guy that I wanna fight before he leaves this sport, and that's BJ Penn. It's a guy I really wanna fight. I respect him, alot. He's a legend. I think it would be a really good match up for me to have that fight in Toronto. "
" I know I'm gonna fight all these guys in the top 10 eventually. I'm a young guy and a lot of these guys are gonna be around for a long time. And I know I'm gonna get my shot against all these guys and maybe I'll be missing my opportunity if I wait to long too fight BJ."
Here's BJ's response via bjpenn.com -

In speaking with the director of BJPENN.COM, and after contemplating the matchup and possible return to action with his advisors, BJ Penn issued the following response to Rory MacDonald…

“Rory, I accept your challenge!”

Short and sweet. Expect plenty more on this one, a fight that will get plenty of press should it be inked.
