Fukuda (18-5) will be making his third appearance in the UFC where he has posted a 1-1 record. He was outpointed in his debut against Nick Ring at UFC 127 and then earned a unanimous decision over Steve Cantwell at UFC 144.

UFC 148 will feature the bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz defending his title against fellow Utlaimte Fighter Live coach and rival Urijah Faber. Also scheduled for the event is the rubber match between Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin.
