Another day, another UFC 148 fight card update.
UFC officials announced the addition of two bouts to the July 7th event which takes place in Las Vegas. Demian Maia will take on Dong Hyun Kim in a welterweight bout while Costa Philippou meets Riki Fukuda in a middleweight bout.
Maia (15-4) will be dropping down from middleweight to make his debut at welterweight. The Brazilian jiu-jitsu specialist began his UFC career with five straight submissions wins which helped him to earn a shot at the middleweight title. However since then, Maia has posted a 4-4 record with each of the wins coming by decision. Kim (15-1-1, 1 NC), a judo expert, has six of his career wins inside the Octagon with all but one coming by way of decision. He holds wins over Sean Pierson, Nate Diaz and Amir Sadollah to his credit.
Since losing his UFC debut Philippou (10-2) has gone on to win his next three bouts. He recently earned a unanimous decision over The Ultimate Fighter 11 winner Court McGee at UFC on FX 2. Fukuda (18-5) will be making his third appearance in the UFC where he has posted a 1-1 record. He was outpointed in his debut against Nick Ring at UFC 127 and then earned a unanimous decision over Steve Cantwell at UFC 144.
UFC 148 will feature the bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz defending his title against fellow Utlaimte Fighter Live coach and rival Urijah Faber. Also scheduled for the event is the rubber match between Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin.
