If you happened to miss Saturday night’s featured attraction between middleweight king Anderson Silva (Pictured) and Chael Sonnen, no worries because ESPN has released the video highlights to get you up to speed. Within seconds of the opening bell, Sonnen had planted Silva on his back. After dominating the Brazilian for the entire frame, many thought Chael P. would pull a repeat performance of their initial meeting – sans the Hail Mary submission with only 110 ticks remaining on the clock, of course. However, after Silva stuffed a couple of takedowns in the second frame, Sonnen inexplicably attempted a spinning backfist. Silva ducked under the arrant strike and the challenger fell to the canvas. “The Spider” unleashed a knee on his grounded opponent – which initially appeared as though it could have been an illegal shot to Sonnen’s head, but it wasn’t – and the fight was stopped shortly after. When the dust settled on their shootout, Silva solidified his status as the baddest 185-pounder in bare feet by posting a record 10 successful title defenses. UFC 148 took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Please click the media player below to watch the highlights:
