Follow @schmelzer77 on Twitter History will be made Saturday night when new UFC darling Ronda Rousey (who I wrote more about here) takes on Liz “Girlzilla” Carmouche in the first ever Women’s fight in the history of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. While this is the most anticipated fight on the card, there are others, featuring well known fighters, that should be very interesting to see. Urijah Faber vs. Ivan Menjivar Ivan “The Pride of El Salvador” Menjivar is a very tough and experience fighter. I give him a slight chance in this fight, but in the end, I think Urijah “The California Kid” Faber will prevail. Faber is known for his outstanding cardio, and because of this, I think that it is imperative that he speeds up this fight. Faber will work to push the pace and make Menjivar work from his heels. The California Kid will need to mix it up by attempting some takedowns, because he has a good advantage if the fight is taken to the ground. Menjivar knows this and will  try and...

Urijah Faber: Moving Up The Ranks

Faber has been one of the sports superstars for years now and truly did pave the way for the lighter weight divisions.  He has not been able to find the same success in the UFC that he had in the WEC but he is always at the top of the division and isn’t going any where anytime soon.  He faces veteran Ivan Menjivar this Saturday in what is sure to be an excellent fight. Urijah...

Urijah Faber Pre Fight Interview

The fact that Faber has a pin of Danny Castillo on his shoulder and made it a point to talk about him during his own interview shows what type of leader and teammate Urijah is.  Easy to see why Team Alpha Male is such a tight knit camp.  Thanks to MMA Fighting for the interview. Urijah Faber Not Worried About Being Cut, Ready To Rumble

The California Kid may have to win tonight if he wants to stay in the UFC according to what Dana White was saying at the pre fight scrum.  Urijah is one of those guys that just hasn’t come up big against some of the best like The Dominator and Aldo.  I think he wins tonight and keeps his job. UFC 157 Countdown: Henderson vs Machida Faber vs Menjivar

The bulk of promotion for UFC 157 has been for the women’s title fight however these are two very meaningful and exciting bouts.  The winner of Machida vs Henderson will almost certainly get the next shot at the UFC 205lbs belt.  Henderson was suppose to have that chance last September but had to pull out of the fight due to knee injury and the card was eventually canceled....

Video: UFC 157 Open Workouts featuring, Faber, Machida, Carmouche and Rousey with a dizzying leg lock workout.

Melvin Manhoef was holding the pads for Lyoto Machida at the UFC 157 open workouts. We could end the article right there and 99% of the world would be satisfied, but if one was to only gush over Manhoef’s possible tutelage over Machida’s striking, then one wouldn’t be able to take in the rest of the sights and sounds of the UFC 157 open workouts. We’ve been to plenty media...
