Urijah Faber (Pictured) was expecting to fight for a title at UFC 148, and just because bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz was forced to withdraw from their shootout Monday with a knee injury, that doesn’t mean Faber still doesn’t have gold on his mind.

“It sucks for everybody, especially myself and Dominick, and I wish him a speedy recovery,” Faber expressed in a video blog. “You don’t wish that on anybody, and I know he wanted to scrap. Now I’m just waiting to hear what happens, I’m thinking a interim title. He’s been out almost a year-and-a-half now, once this surgery goes through, it’s going to be another nine months.

“So I’m hoping for a top contender. Renan Barao, in my opinion, is next up. Michael McDonald after that, Ivan Menjivar after that. So I’m just waiting to see. I know as much as you guys do, but I’m ready to scrap July 7th. As far as I’m concerned, that’s when it’s going down.”

Barao is currently scheduled to face Menjivar at UFC 148, while McDonald is fresh off a quick 1stRound knockout victory over Miguel Torres just 16 days ago.

Cruz hasn’t defended his throne since posting a unanimous decision win over Demetrious Johnson in October 2011. “The Dominator” had surgery on his broken left index finger in January and then went straight into his coaching duties on “The Ultimate Fighter: Live.”

After announcing Cruz’s injury, UFC president Dana White tweeted, “Stay tuned for more info.” Well, we’re all waiting, Dana…

UFC 148 takes place Fourth of July weekend inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
