Jason High gets fired for pushing referee Kevin Mulhall in the heat of the moment, and subsequently gets suspended for one year from the New Mexico State Athletic Commission, while Vitor Belfort (pictured) apparently gets a UFC middleweight title shot after admitting he flunked his random drug test due to elevated levels of testosterone.
On this week’s edition of “UFC Tonight,” it was reported Belfort gets the winner of the UFC 175 title affair between champion Chris Weidman and Lyoto Machida.
A TRT-powered Belfort was originally slated to challenge Weidman for this crown at UFC 173, but “The Phenom” was pulled from the bout after the Nevada State Athletic Commission voted unanimously in February to ban TRT.
Prior to the UFC’s decision to yank Belfort, the NSAC randomly drug tested Belfort at the MMA Awards. Because Belfort wasn’t licensed to fight in Nevada, the results from the pop quiz remained top secret until earlier this month when the Brazilian voluntarily spilled the beans clocking a high testosterone level on the screening.
Belfort was scheduled to stand before the NSAC last week to explain why his testosterone was beyond the legal limits, so his flunked exam was going to be made public then anyway.
UFC 175 goes down July 5 inside Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
