The PFL became the second-largest MMA promotion in the world after acquiring Bellator. They had vowed to espouse the fighter-first approach but recently garnered criticism for their treatment of Gegard Mousasi, Kayla Harrison, and Douglas Lima.
There has been a lot of turbulence lately between the PFL and some of the old guard from Bellator. As we all know, late last year, the Professional Fighters League purchased Bellator and rolled out a new Champions Series for the promotion which has already had it’s first few shows this year.
The Professional Fighters League knew there would be some hiccups when it purchased Bellator. Integrating an entire roster was going to be a process that took a few years to work itself out.
Gegard Mousasi has proven himself to be one of MMA‘s most-decorated fighters, promotion notwithstanding. Although Mousasi hasn’t set foot inside a cage in more than a year’s time, he’s currently one victory away from a noteworthy milestone in his MMA career.
PFL emerged as the second-best MMA promotion in the world after it acquired Bellator MMA. Under Donn Davis, Ray Sefo, and Peter Murray, the PFL espoused the ‘fighter’s first’ business practice but recently came at odds with Gegard Mousasi, the ex-Bellator middleweight champion.
The standoff between Gegard Mousasi and the PFL has come to an unceremonious end. The 60-fight veteran was released from his contract after suggesting that he’d pursue legal action for being sidelined after his contract was absorbed in the PFL and Bellator merger.
