The two are friends outside of the cage and Benavidez decided to send some poetry to raise the spirits of McCall who is going through some tough personal times.

Kicking off the pay-per-view was a back and forth battle between two of the flyweights best.
Ian McCall and Joseph Benavidez battled for three full rounds, with Benavidez doing more significant damage to earn the judges unanimous decision.
More than likely the win will put him right up into title contention against UFC Flyweight Champion Demetrious Johnson.

Both men began the round throwing leg kicks and then locked up. Benavidez landed a groin shot, but McCall shook it off and fought on. McCall got rocked and about thirty seconds later gets his with a low blow. “Uncle Creepy” keeps getting hit, but laughed it off. A flurry to ended the first round.
