Jon Jones, Daniel Cormier keeping UFC in headlines

Following Monday’s melee between incumbent light heavyweight champ Jon Jones and top-ranked contender Daniel Cormier at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the buzz surrounding one of the most highly anticipated bouts in the division’s history has reached a fever pitch ahead of their long-awaited showdown on September 27th. But as unimpressed as the UFC claimed to be about the incident...

‘Big Country’ clobbers ‘Big Nog’ in Abu Dhabi (Video)

A heavyweight tilt scheduled for five rounds between KO artist Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson, and mixed martial arts legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, headlined the UFC’s 39th Fight Night card earlier today inside of Abu Dhabi’s du Arena. The two 37-year-old fighters would look to put themselves back into the title talks after an unimpressive 2013 campaign, respectively. We all...

Roy Nelson demolishes Big Nog with a devastating KO

Please stop fighting, Big Nog. I don’t want to keep watching you get hurt. It’s just not fun. If you ask me, the fight between Roy Nelson and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira should’ve been stopped about 20 seconds before Roy finally shut off Nog’s lights and maybe pulled the curtain on his career. Why did the ref even keep it going? Why must men be sent into unconsciousness before...

Roy Nelson Brutally KO’s Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira At UFC Fight Night 39

Roy Nelson punished Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira with his right hand power punching tonight at UFC Fight Night 39, dropping him a couple of times before finally knocking him out late in the first round. Round One: We’re underway in the main event. Nogueira takes the center of the Octagon to start. ‘Big Nog’ throwing more punches, albeit tentatively. Suddenly Nelson unleashes with...

TVP: 'Big Country' deletes Cro Cop

There's having a punchers chance, and there's having a punchers chance. I for one find it awful difficult to ever bet against Roy Nelson simply due to that hammer attached to his right wrist. Sure, it may be easy to avoid for the more elite fighters. And it's no secret that Roy slows down as the fight progresses. All of that said, it must be accounted for at all times...

Big Country is not as big anymore

Roy Nelson has been getting in good cardio for his UFC 166 training camp. Coming off an upset decision at UFC 161 by the fast hands of Stipe Miocic, it was clear to him that his overall conditioning needed improvement . Nelson took the Miocic fight on two weeks notice, so for starters, a full camp must have helped. It looks like the hard work is paying off.

Stipe Miocic steals the show at UFC 161

When compiling my hov-mma staff fight picks I always do two things. 1. Make better picks than everyone else and 2. Find myself talking up an underdog. Anyone who has read the staff pick 'em will know the former is true but the latter is worth a little more discussion. A prediction every event or so usually goes something like "If fighter X can execute his gameplan perfectly...

Stipe Miocic Dominates Roy Nelson at UFC 161 (Video Highlight)

If this was Roy Nelson’s final fight inside the Octagon, it certainly was not the way “Big Country” envisioned leaving the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion. Nelson was thoroughly outstruck by Stipe Miocic (pictured) at UFC 161. He was rocked several times and appeared winded midway through the opening round. When it was all said and done, Nelson dropped a lopsided...

What's next for Roy Nelson after UFC 159?

Big Country keeps on keeping on! Their may be no greater anomaly in MMA than Roy "Big Country" Nelson. Competing in a sport of super athletes and a division of rangy muscle-bound killers Nelson looks somewhat out of place. To the untrained eye he is just some fat guy with a mullet trying to compete with guys who are much stronger, taller and better than him. Compete though...
