Multiple sources reported today that Landon Cassill will not drive for BK Racing in the upcoming season. Up until today there had been nothing reported regarding Cassill and BK Racing this season but with just a little over a month until the first race of the season, Cassill is out of a ride. Cassill didn’t participate in Daytona Testing a week ago and he had said nothing regarding 2013 all off-season. Cassill drove the No.83 Burger King car for BK Racing last season and he ended up finishing 31st in the standings. Cassill had a best finish of 18th three times last season. “We just couldn’t work it out…” Cassill said following the announcement of him parting ways with BK Racing. “There are a lot of balls up in the air at BK…” Cassill also said which means BK Racing is having some issues and the have a few things unknown as we get ready for the 2013 season. Cassill said he will start searching for a new ride as soon as possible but there are few left as we get closer to Daytona. None of the bigger organizations will open their doors for a new driver with just a month left until Daytona so Cassill has little options to drive a full-schedule in the Cup Series in 2013. Cassill could show up at the track sometime this season but he will likely be driving for a start and park team. Cassill could explore the Nationwide and Truck Series’ but he likely wants to stay in the Cup Series. David Reutimann will likely be in at BK Racing with the departure of Cassill since Reutimann doesn’t have a ride for 2013 and Reutimann has worked with BK Racing before. Travis Kvapil will be in a BK Racing car this season to possibly accommodate Reutimann. BK Racing participated in testing last week at Daytona with Travis Kvapil. An announcement many didn’t expect came from BK Racing today and not seeing Landon Cassill in a Cup car this season will surely will be different. Cassill has plenty of talent and he should easily find a Cup car to drive in for maybe just a few races this season. BK Racing lost a great young racer today but Cassill is primed for a new opportunity in NASCAR. By Jason Schultz
