Chris Buescher came within mere seconds of his first NASCAR Cup Series victory of 2024, but the No. 17 was edged out by Kyle Larson in thrilling fashion.

During an incredible race at Kansas Speedway, Buescher and Larson were battling for the win on the final lap, and many believed it was Buescher who crossed the finish line first, including the FOX booth. However, after looking at the replay, Larson and the No. 5 narrowly beat Buescher to the line, capturing the win.

Coming to the line, Larson and Buescher banged doors, and some theorized Buescher might’ve not been too thrilled with the way Larson raced him. However, Buescher put those rumors to bed, speaking with FOX’s Bob Pockrass after the race.

“Yeah. I mean, it was a lot of blocking from me. Certainly could’ve done more. Should’ve done more, I guess,” Buescher said, regarding the final lap battle with the No. 5. “But you know, it was really tight up there.

“We obviously made contact, and I’m sure he wished he had more space too. Banged doors down the front stretch, all the way to the line. Made a photo-finish out of it, but certainly could’ve done more. Looking back now, wish I did.”

Evidently, Buescher isn’t blaming anyone but himself for not winning at Kansas. The No. 17 wheelman believes he could’ve done more, and that the race was in his hands, until Larson stole it from him in the end.

Alas, it’ll still sting for Chris Buescher, as he looks back on what could’ve been at Kansas. The RFK Racing wheelman is proving he’s one of the top talents in the sport, as he rounds into form as the 2024 campaign continues.

Chris Buescher clarifies Denny Hamlin comment, perceived shade at Kyle Larson after photo finish

Continuing, Chris Buescher was talkative on X (formerly known as Twitter) following Sunday’s incredible finish at Kansas Speedway.

The No. 17 came oh-so-close to winning his first race of the season, but he fell to Kyle Larson by 0.001 seconds, the closest finish in NASCAR’s illustrious history. Prior to that though, he was in a heated battle with Denny Hamlin during the final stage, and it’s evident the No. 11 wheelman has Buescher’s respect.

The RFK Racing wheelman took to X to heap some praise on Hamlin, relenting that even though the No. 11 receives his fair-share of flack, Buescher has immense respect for him.

“As much (s— emoji) as you might get @dennyhamlin, you’ve always raced me clean,” Buescher posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Great battle today.”

Afterwards, many interpreted Buescher’s praise for Hamlin as a shot at Larson, who banged doors with Buesscher on the way to the finish line. The No. 17 driver was quick to clear up any confusion though, letting the world know there’s no issues between the two.

“To be clear for y’all… no shade at @KyleLarsonRacin,” Buescher clarified. “We were banging doors all the way to the checkered. He’s one heck of a racer, and that was just two drivers going for the trophy (thumbs-up emoji).”

Nevertheless, Chris Buescher certainly would’ve been happier with a win, than being the second-place car in the closest finish NASCAR has ever seen. His next win seems to be on the horizon, sooner rather than later, but the result from Kansas will certainly sting for awhile.
