Heading into the third race of the season, many of NASCAR’s biggest names were in serious trouble in the Sprint Cup Series point standings. Matt Kenseth, Kasey Kahne and numerous others were mired back in the mid 20s and 30s in the rankings, and with one week left until qualifying was set to revert to this season’s owner point standings it was time to get going for many of these superstars.
Who is on the move after Las Vegas?
Matt Kenseth — 7th (up 11 spots)
The 2003 Sprint Cup Series champion started the 2013 season with a new raceteam (Joe Gibbs Racing) and with the promise of bringing the veteran leadership that the team lost when Tony Stewart left in 2009. Kenseth began his bid for a second Sprint Cup in dominating fashion, leading 86 laps — more than anyone — in the season-opening Daytona 500. However fate would intervene, as his motor expired on lap 149.
