PLAYERS: Morgan Shepherd
With only 43 cars on the entry list this weekend for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway there will be no drivers who fail to qualify. That will mean that Morgan Shepherd will become the oldest driver to compete in the series when he races Sunday in the Sylvania 300. The 71-year-old Shepherd will drive the No. 52 Toyota Camry of Bob Keselowski. Jim Fitzgerald currently holds the record as the oldest starter in a Cup race. Fitzgerald was 65 years, 6 months, 20 days when he ran at Riverside, Calif., in June 1987. He finished 17th. The last time Shepherd competed in a Cup Series race was at New Hampshire in 2006. He has made 514 career starts in NASCAR’s premier series winning 4 races and scoring 168 finishes inside the top ten.
