Joey Logano won the pole last night for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series finale Sunday at the Homestead/Miami Speedway. However, he will have to relinquish that spot to start tomorrow’s race due to a practice incident in the first practice today and was forced to go to the back up. Logano was caught up in a wreck on the front stretch with Greg Biffle and his teammate Denny Hamlin. Logano was trailing off Turn 4 and ran into the back of the two when they made contact just prior to the start/finish line. Hamlin appeared to come up on Biffle and turned them into the outside wall before sliding down to the inside. With Logano having to go to a back up and forgo his pole spot, championship leader Brad Keselowski will now move up to the top spot. Keselowski gets the spot due to the inside rows all moving up one row by Logano dropping to the back. That’s huge as it will give Keselowski clear air and an opportunity to lead and get that bonus point off the bat. It forces Jimmie Johnson to move from his 10th starting spot and try and catch Keselowski. Instead of Johnson hoping Keselowski doesn’t lead a lap and fades early he now is all but guaranteed to not only lead a lap but will be the guy setting the pace until Johnson can get to him. This could have been the luck Keselowski needs to earn his first Cup title and give Roger Penske his first car owner title in NASCAR’s top series as well.
