With help from Valvoline, Start ‘N’ Park Blog was able to ask 2013 rookie of the year contender Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. some questions about Valvoline NextGen motor oil, the upcoming season, and selling motor oil. Stenhouse and his Roush Fenway Racing teammates take advantage of Valvoline NextGen’s unique formula of 50% recycled oil and still maintaining 100% of the protection you’ve come to expect. It worked in helping him to back to back Nationwide Series titles, so why not try it out yourself? Below is that interview we had with him. You showed in late 2011 that you could win with a motor oil that was 50% recycled oil, but put an exclamation point on that after another championship year in 2012. What did the second title mean to you and for those second guessing Valvoline NextGen? Anytime you can win back-to-back championships, it is an amazing feat. We had a solid season and the hard-work resulted in a championship. Valvoline NextGen oil was a huge factor in our championship season as each of our motors lasted the entire race duration. What does it mean to drive for a forward thinking sponsor like Valvoline NextGen? Valvoline is all about innovation. Like Valvoline, our team is always thinking ahead and planning so we are prepared each and every week when we get to the track. Jeff Gordon was undercover selling motor oil recently, you took up the challenge last year for Valvoline NextGen, what did you think of that experience? I think I will stick with driving. I don’t know why I struggled selling Valvoline NextGen oil since it is a great product and we use it in our race cars. I might need to try a different sales tactic. If you were to take on Trevor again, what would you do different? I would lock Trevor in the back room so he couldn’t participate that way I would get all the sales. As you enter your first year in the Sprint Cup Series, how will you rate success for the season? We definitely want to win the Rookie of the Year title. I think we will try to get the first five races under our belt and then set more concrete goals. We want to be competitive each weekend. You have some races open, can we see Valvoline NextGen on your car for any races as the primary sponsor? You will see the Valvoline NextGen scheme on our No. 17 Ford Fusion at Kansas Speedway in April, but it will be in our engines all season long.
