Start ‘N’ Park Blog is taking a look back at the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver by driver. This recap will take a look at the driver’s stats, the season’s highlights, the season’s lowlights, what a quick look at next year. This installment takes a look back at Joey Logano who finished in the 17th place in the final standings. 2012 Statistics: Points: 965 Position: 17th Preseason Pick: 25th Starts: 36 Poles: 2 Wins: 1 Top 5s: 2 Top 10s: 12 DNFs: 3 Earnings: $4,050,163 What Was Said Prior To The Season: “He has a new crew chief, new sponsor, and added pressure. How will Joey Logano perform to it? With the same old mediocrity that has graced his career since he started in the Cup Series as the next best thing. I don’t think there’s any saving him. His sponsor, Home Depot, already tried replacing him and failed. I can’t see them or Joe Gibbs Racing continuing to hold on to him because he once showed promise. I say this year is more of the same, and he’s told to go look for a new job in November.” What Happened In 2012: Logano was able to silence some critics by capturing his second career win at Pocono, but that could not save his position at Joe Gibbs Racing. The season started off with a ninth at Daytona and a tenth at Phoenix, then it was mid-20s. He rebounded a bit with the win, but just couldn’t get the consistency he needed to get about 17th in points. On To 2013: Logano could never fully get out of Tony Stewart’s shadow at Joe Gibbs Racing and will try to set his own course at Penske Racing in 2013. Early testing has shown that he and new teammate Brad Keselowski are working on getting a chemistry together, so change will most likely be good for him.
