Start ‘N’ Park Blog is taking a look back at the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver by driver. This recap will take a look at the driver’s stats, the season’s highlights, the season’s lowlights, what a quick look at next year. This installment takes a look back at Brad Keselowski who finished in the 1st place in the final standings. 2012 Statistics: Points: 2,400 Position: 1st Preseason Pick: 11th Starts: 36 Poles: 0 Wins: 5 Top 5s: 13 Top 10s: 23 DNFs: 1 Earnings: $6,227,850 What Was Said Prior To The Season: “Brad Keselowski had a surprise 2011 that no one saw coming. He got three wins and peaked at the right time to get fifth place in the final standings after being on the outside looking in most of the year. I see him having a hangover season. He’ll get a win or two, but I don’t think he’ll rekindle the magic he found in the second half of 2011.” What Happened In 2012: Well again, I was wrong. Keselowski not only rekindle that magic from 2011, he went above and beyond it all season long. He started in a bit of a hole, but got wins when he needed them to help dig out of that hole. I knew he had the talent to be a champion, but didn’t think it would happen this early in his career. His only DNF was the season opening race at Daytona and once the Chase opened he was never worse than second in points. Keselowski will be a great champion for the sport and showed what kind of ambassador he can be after Homestead concluded. This is an exciting time for NASCAR and its fans. On To 2013: Who would have thought that Brad Keselowski brings Roger Penske his first title? Can he bring him a second in 2013? It is not out of the question, the biggest hurdle will be switching from Dodge to Ford for 2013. He has shown he’s working well with new teammate Joey Logano, and I believe having a consistent teammate all season long will make him somehow stronger.
