PLAYERS: Landon Cassill
Start ‘N’ Park Blog is taking a look back at the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver by driver. This recap will take a look at the driver’s stats, the season’s highlights, the season’s lowlights, what a quick look at next year. This installment takes a look back at Landon Cassill who finished in the 31st place in the final standings. 2012 Statistics: Points: 598 Position: 31st Preseason Pick: 32nd Starts: 36 Poles: 0 Wins: 0 Top 5s: 0 Top 10s: 0 DNFs: 4 Earnings: $4,178,755 What Was Said Prior To The Season: Cassill’s deal with BK Racing was thrown together so late for 2012, I had nothing to say about him. What Happened In 2012: What I could have said was “good for him, I’m sure we won’t hear much about him until Danica tries (and fails) to purposely wreck him.” Ok, maybe I wouldn’t have been that good, but that’s how you’d sum up his season. It wasn’t terrible, as he finished one better than my pick, but it was nothing special. His best finish was a trio of 18ths at Charlotte, Michigan, and Kansas. Mostly he stayed in the low 20s each race, putting together an average finish of 27.500. On the plus he did make every race and didn’t have to just like other drivers. On To 2013: I suspect he will be back at BK Racing in 2013. I think Cassill has the talent, it is just a matter of getting the cars under him, and continuing to make strides. If he gets one or two top 10 finishes, that will be a successful 2013 for him and his team.
