The once perineal championship contender had slipped off the map in 2009 and 2010, before finally righting the ship with leadership from new crew chief Steve Letarte in 2011. In the past year and a half Earnhardt has bucked his trend from mediocre to being a week-in and week-out contender again. Sunday the planets finally aligned just right, and Earnhardt reached the hallowed grounds of Michigan International Speedway’s victory lane.
