Tony Stewart has had a tumultuous few weeks of racing at local short tracks. A few weeks ago he was credited for starting a 15 car pileup that injured another driver, then this past week he rolled his own Sprint Car five times.
Now it appears that his latest venture in a sprint car race has ended any chance he had of making the 2013 Chase For The Sprint Cup.
According to ESPN, Stewart was the leader on lap 25 of a 30 lap feature at Southern Iowa Speedway when a lapped car lost control and collected several others including the three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion.
Stewart sustained a broken tibia and fibula in the melee and was flown to a local hospital, where he required corrective surgery immediately. As a result Stewart will miss this week’s race at Watkins Glen.
Stewart-Haas Racing hasn’t commented on the accident and also has yet to name a replacement driver. Stewart of course shrugged off the media last week for making ...
