NASCAR needs a boost in popularity and the way it is handling its drivers is not helping matters.
With Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at the Charlotte Roval serving as an elimination race for the playoffs, all the attention was on the drivers whose season depended on a solid result in order to keep their title hopes alive.
Non-playoff driver A.J. Allmendinger beat William Byron in a 10-lap dash in NASCAR's second playoff elimination race Sunday, winning the Bank of America Roval 400 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway road course in Concord, N.C.
Allmendinger, Chris Buescher and Joey Logano were all taken to the care center after the race to be evaluated. All three were released following their evaluations.
