Getting traded is just a fact of life for an NBA player.

Many of the greats have been traded such as Patrick Ewing, Hakeem Olajuwon, George Gervin and Shaquille O'Neal.

It just happens, and like they say in the NBA, it's just business. But not for new Dallas Maverick's forward Lamar Odom. According to Charles Barkley, he thinks Odom is just not over getting traded from the Lakers.

Lamar Odom is just mentally out of it. It's like he was so offended that the Lakers wanted to trade him - it's like he's not there right now. He's a real good player. But it seems like he went through a divorce ... and he's just out of it. He's not even close to being the same guy. And he's a heck of a guy. But it seems like he was so shook up and he hasn't snapped out of it.

Odom's stats so far in this shortened season pale in comparison to his stint last season with the Lakers. Currently, he is averaging 6.7 points while shooting 28% from the field in 10 games for the Mavs. Last season he averaged 14.4 points while shooting 53% from the field for L.A.

Sure, he might have excelled in the Triangle-Offense former coach Phil Jackson put in use but with new coach Mike Brown running a completely different system, Odom may not have fit in as well. Moreover, one would think getting traded to the NBA defending champs might be a welcomed change for Odom seeing how he would have a good shot at capturing another title.

Whatever the reasons are for his funk, one thing is clear -- Odom has to be the player we all know he can if Dallas wants any shot at repeating this season. Odom is a career 14.5 point per game scorer and Dallas can sure use his scoring punch. Yes, he will not make up for the huge loss of Tyson Chandler but at 6-10, Odom can be another highly-skilled big Dallas can throw at opposing teams.

Odom is a 12-year NBA veteran and should know getting traded is part of the NBA. Just ask Barkley who, was traded twice in his career.
