On Wednesday, the Philadelphia 76ers juggled the roster by cutting Kwame Brown and Darius Morris and signing guards Lorenzo Brown and Elliot Williams. As reported by John Finger of CSNPhilly.com, the Kwame Brown era ended before it ever started. The signing of Brown turned out to be one of the worst for the Sixers in recent history.  Former coach Doug Collins advocated the move which was made before the beginning of last season.  Brown had a one-year deal for $3 million and an option for $3 million for this season. Brown struggled with a hamstring injury during training camp and never got it going.  Perhaps most importantly, he appeared to lack motivation motivation.  Brown left the team briefly to tend to “personal issues.” A source said Brown skipped practices complaining of injuries that didn’t exist. He played in only 22 games with the 76ers last year and averaged 1.9 points and 3.4 rebounds in 12 minutes per game. He didn’t play a game nor even practice with the team this season. Darius Morris was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round in 2011.  This season, he played in all 12 games and averaged 6.9 points and 2.6 assists in 16 minutes per game.  In 79 career games, he is averaging 4.1 points and 1.6 assists per game. Although Morris and Brown didn’t do much in their time with the 76ers,  general manager Sam Hinkie admits waiving players is never easy to do. “Never a fun day to have to do that, but this is the stage we’re in,” Sixers GM Sam Hinkie said. “We’ll continue to evaluate players and find ones that can help us move forward and find others on our radar that we can add to our group.” Elliott Williams has played only one NBA season when he averaged 3.7 points in 24 games for the Portland Trail Blazers in 2011-2012.  He missed all of last season with an Achilles injury and was cut by the Cavaliers before the start of this season. Lorenzo Brown was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves this year but was cut before the start of the season. Williams and Brown will battle for playing time behind starters Michael Carter-Williams and James Anderson. Tony Wroten has started in the absence of Carter-Williams, so Brown and Williams will battle Jason Richardson for playing time.

76ers waive former No. 1 pick Kwame Brown

The Philadelphia 76ers have waived former No. 1 overall pick Kwame Brown. The Sixers ended Brown's disappointing two-year stint when they cut ties with him on Wednesday. Brown had yet to play this season and appeared in only 22 games last year in the first season of a two-year contract. Brown never lived up to the expectations heaped on him after he skipped high school and...

Philadelphia 76ers Release Kwame Brown

And so ends the Kwame Brown Era in Philadelphia. Although, to be perfectly honest, we kind of forgot he was still there. Also, now is a good time to remind everyone that Kwame Brown has made roughly $64 million in his career. Philadelphia 76ers roster changes

When looking at the 76ers early this year, nothing was certain. Who is going to stay/go? Will there be any major/minor trades? With first-year Coach Brett Brown on board, Philadelphia knew there’d be some changes. Adjustments have been made starting with the release of Kwame Brown prior to the Sixers game against the Toronto Raptors. He lasted a little over a season with the Sixers...

New Sixers Williams, Brown will get a chance

Practice had ended Thursday afternoon at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, but the court was still full of players. There were no lingerers, either. The young Sixers, a team with no one older than 25, were getting after it. And this was after a film session and a full practice. It’s one thing to have such a bevy of activity during a lull in the schedule, but the...

Five Philadelphia Athletes Attended the Sixers Game Tonight

The Sixers have seen a ton of support so far this season. DeSean Jackson and Cole Hamels were previously spotted at games, but today 5 players — 3 from the Eagles, 2 from the Flyers — attended the game as the Sixers hosted the Raptors. The Eagles’ Kurt Coleman, Colt Anderson and Jason Kelce. The Flyers’ Jakub Voracek and Matt Read Both the Flyers and Eagles are coming off...

76ers Envision Intriguing Duo In Noel, Hawes

Spencer Hawes has gotten off to a strong start for the Philadlephia 76ers, and Brett Brown sees the veteran center as an interesting core piece alongside Nerlens Noel in the frontcourt. “Could those two play next to each other?” Brown said. “Yes they could.” Brown likes the idea of Hawes at the power forward position. Noel, 7-foot-1, is rehabilitating a torn ACL and has...

Sixers/Raptors: Time for Some Introspection

I’ve noticed something rather disheartening about my recent Sixers posts. They kind of suck. Or, at the very least, they’ve taken a turn for the monotonous. I’d like to chalk it up to the fact that I simply don’t have enough to complain about at the moment. I have, after all, been a staunch advocate of the emotionally-detached approach to the 2013-14 season since day 1....

Waived by Sixers, where does Kwame Brown land next?

Kwame Brown is on the move again, but where he will sign next remains a mystery. On Wednesday, the Philadelphia 76ers waived the former No. 1 overall draft pick in 2001 along with Darius Morris, and Brown's departure can be rooted in the final months of last sesaon when Brown did not appear in the final 30 games for the Sixers. Although he was healthy during that stretch, this...

Michael Carter-Williams returns in 76ers’ loss to Toronto

The Philadelphia 76ers, who lost three of their last four games entering last night, welcomed the return of Michael Carter-Williams to the lineup against the Toronto Raptors.  He struggled in the 76ers’ 108-98 loss, but seeing him out on the court is better than the alternative of another “did not play” in the box score. As reported at rotoworld.com, Carter-Williams returned...

Daniel Orton to Start Again on Friday?

When Thaddeus Young missed Philadelphia’s missed Wednesday’s 108-98 loss to the Toronto Raptors for personal reasons, the Philadelphia 76ers turned to former first-round pick Daniel Orton (Orlando/2010) to take his place in the starting lineup.
