76ers' Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey set unbelievable mark in win over Magic

Philadelphia 76ers dynamic duo, reigning MVP Joel Embiid and upstart point guard Tyrese Maxey, set an incredible NBA mark in a 124-109 win over the Orlando Magic on Friday.

Embiid and Maxey finished with 30 or more points in the same game for the eighth time this season. According to OptaStats, that's the most 30-plus point games by a center/guard combo in a single season in NBA history.

Embiid scored a team-high 36 points with seven rebounds, four steals and two assists. Meanwhile, Maxey finished with 32 points, including four three-pointers, five assists, three boards, and three steals.

While Maxey's emergence following the departure of James Harden is an exciting development for the Sixers, the play of Embiid down the stretch has the franchise thinking big.

Embiid continues to make positive strides in his bid for back-to-back MVP honors. Following his 36-point performance on Friday, he has 1,053 points, the 10th most in NBA history through 30 games of the season, per Stathead. Only five players have scored more, including Harden and Hall of Famers Rick Barry, Elgin Baylor, Michael Jordan and Wilt Chamberlain, who occupies five spots alone.

Meanwhile, he increased his streak of scoring 30 or more points to 19 straight games. According to the Sixers, Embiid's stretch ranks sixth all-time, with only Harden and Chamberlain having longer streaks.

Embiid and Maxey's standout night also helped the Sixers in the standings. Improving to 27-13, they're now only a half-game behind the Milwaukee Bucks (28-13) for second in the Eastern Conference and four back of the first-place Boston Celtics (32-10), who lost, 102-100, on Friday to the same Denver Nuggets that fell to the Sixers, 126-121, earlier in the week.
